This course is worth 1.5 continuing education contact hour for LCATs in New York state.
This presentation will discuss how this therapist developed a Healing Arts Curriculum in a Therapeutic Retreat Setting for Veterans, Couples, Families and Survivors of Military Sexual Trauma. This presenter will review the program structure and interventions, and end with case studies and artwork.
- Participants will be able to identify 5 different interventions for trauma work with veterans.
- Participants will understand how art therapy can be introduced in a retreat setting.
- Participants will learn 3 specific directives appropriate for use with this population
Alix Sugarman is a licensed, registered and board-certified art therapist. She has worked as an art therapist in diverse settings: from psychiatric outpatient hospitalization programs to adolescent and youth services in non-profit organizations. It has been her life’s passion to connect experiential art therapy with equine assisted learning and psychotherapy (EAGALA) in facilities throughout the US. In 2013, she developed Goodwill Industries’ first program partnering with horses. She currently sees clients in her private practice office in Red Hook, NY and works as an independent contractor with the Lone Survivor Foundation, developing a Healing Arts curriculum and connecting group and individual objectives with those addressed in the EAGALA arena.
