This course is worth 1.0 continuing education contact hour for LCATs in New York state.
In this workshop, participants will review a qualitative study on how creative arts therapists provide embodied treatment with trauma. Relevant themes including, relational enactments, safety, somatic countertransference and creative interventions will be examined as they may best be implemented in clinical practice.
1) Participants will be able to identify three resources for therapists working with trauma.
2) Participants will be able to name two facets of embodiment relevant to the treatment of trauma
3) Participants will be able to list two factors that contribute to a client’s sense of safety in trauma treatment.
Brian T Harris, PhD, MT-BC, LCAT is a music psychotherapist inprivat
e practice in NYC. He holds a PhD in Expressive Therapies and is an adjunct faculty member at New York University and a core faculty member of the Kint Institute’s creative arts therapy and trauma certificate program. Dr. Harris is the past head of the Pavarotti Music Center’s music therapy department in Mostar, Bosnia and past consultant to UNICEF in development of music therapy initiatives for Syrian refugee children in Jordan. He is co-editor of the upcoming book Creative Arts Therapies and the LGBTQ Community. Dr. Harris has published and presented nationally and internationally and has worked for over 20 years with a diverse range of clients.
Briana MacWilliam has over 12 years of clinical experience as a creative arts therapist, and is the Founder and Director of CreativeArtsTherapiesOnline.com. She has held two directorial positions in community-based and day-treatment settings, and was a research outcomes coordinator for four years, at the Amen Clinics, Inc.—a brain research and diagnostic facility. She edited and co-authored two books on the subjects of attachment and complicated grief, and working with LGBTQ populations. She is also the Director for Continuing Education for Pratt Institute’s Creative Arts Therapies Department. Additionally, she provides training in spiritual wealth and professional development online, through her program, "The Abundant Healer."
